Neonode’s Robust and Efficient Multisensing® Solution For Laptop Convertibles Debuts on Acclaimed OLPC Laptop Device

SANTA CLARA, California – May 17, 2013 – Neonode Inc., (NASDAQ: NEON), the optical touch technology company, today announces that its robust, cost efficient and sustainably low-powered MultiSensing Technology is integrated into One Laptop Per Child’s (OLPC) new XO-4 Touch.

The XO-4 Touch, which is now shipping globally, is the evolution of OLPC’s successful XO-1 laptop series, and now leverages Neonode’s Multisensing Technology to augment usability, and user experience. In light of its target market, this laptop convertible is developed to be virtually childproof, with strict requirements for safety, durability, cost, and power-efficiency. These demanding specifications are also valid for the touch requirements, and are implemented via Neonode’s MultiSensing® solutions, which excel in each of the above-mentioned areas.

OLPC’s rigorous requirements include:

Exceptional power efficiency, that supports hand-crank charging

A touch-based user interface that works without adding cover-glass, thereby maximizing glare-free readability in sunlight

Integration of low-cost parts that are durable, yet easily replaced and repaired

Enabling high-performance touch functionality in less-than-ideal environments that may include dust, dirt, and moisture

“We are proud to deliver our technology to a forward-thinking partner such as One Laptop Per Child” says Thomas Eriksson, CEO at Neonode. “To see the X0-4 Touch come to market is truly a milestone for us, and a testament to the all-round quality, stability, and versatility of our technology. While the OLPC laptop is a very basic device, its touch performance and cost requirements are similar to those of regular convertibles. We are also appreciative for the close and inspiring working relationship with OLPC, whose vision to push education, entertainment and knowledge, to children around the globe, continues to inspire us every day. Thus we are happy to contribute with a creativity-inducing touch experience to the very same children. Moreover, we are grateful for OLPC’s rigorous design-in experience, which will likely serve us well, as we imminently enter mainstream laptop PC markets” he concludes.

OLPC has strategic partnerships with world-class educational content developers, including Sesame Street Workshop, UNESCO and Little Pim, to provide content for the XO laptops and tablets. OLPC, created by faculty members from the MIT Media Lab, sells the laptops in large quantities to governments and private institutions around the world, that in turn issue them to children or schools on a basis of one laptop per child.

Sony’s 13.3-inch e-ink paper prototype shown off at education expo in Japan (video)

ENGADGET: Earlier this week, we learned of Sony’s plans for a 13.3-inch e-ink slate with stylus support pitched at students, and now Diginfo has caught up with the prototype device at the Educational IT Solutions Expo in Japan. The A4-sized tablet is said to be the first piece of hardware with an E Ink Mobius display that’s flexible and light due to its new plastic construction. Co-developed by Sony and E Ink, the display only contributes 60g to the overall weight, which is apparently 50 percent lighter than similar screens built with glass. Sony says the software isn’t quite as slick as it’d like it to be just yet, but nevertheless, you can check out people scrawling, annotating and highlighting on the prototype in the video below.

SANTA CLARA, CA. – May 8, 2013 – Neonode Inc. (NASDAQ: NEON), the optical touch technology company featuring the Multisensing® Touch Technology, today reported financial results for its first quarter ended March 31, 2013.

To the release: http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20130508005835/en

Recent Highlights:

Entered into partnership with a Tier One PC Semiconductor OEM to jointly develop a PC reference and automotive platform

In discussions with Tier One PC OEMs regarding PC designs

Signed 3 new technology license agreements with Auto In-Car-Entertainment (ICE) OEMs, including two Top-Ten global brands

Signed a new license agreement with smartphone and tablet OEM in China

Were awarded 3 new patents in 2013, bringing the patent total to 12, with 72 pending patents applications

“Our performance for the quarter ended March 31, 2013 is in line with our internal expectations, and is reflective of the seasonality for our customers’ production” said Thomas Eriksson, Neonode CEO. “More significantly, however, during 2013, we have made significant leaps, particularly in our PC-related technologies, and have experienced growing traction with new and old customers.”

“Our initial customers in tablets, printers, and handsets still expect to start ramping in the second-half of 2013. Our automotive customers are already in production for after-market infotainment products, and we expect our expanding Tier-One auto customer base will ramp in volume as early as next year. Most significantly, we now believe that Neonode will emerge as a key player in the Windows notebook PC space, within the coming year. That said, we will continue to reiterate that since we are a licensing company, with our growth prospects tied to new markets and customers, our visibility of precise rollout dates and ramps is still limited” continued Eriksson.

“Finally, in conjunction with our legal and patent advisors, we have conducted and in-depth analysis of our IP position over the last year, while actively filing for complementary follow-on and new patents. To date, we have 12 patents issued, and have 72 more patents pending. Our next step is to “decide” the final organizational structure to enable us to maximize the value of our IP. Until this decision is finalized, we will not comment further about this topic” concluded Eriksson.

SANTA CLARA, California – May 2, 2013 – Neonode Inc., (NASDAQ: NEON), the optical touch technology company featuring the Multisensing® Touch Technology, announced today that it has signed a multi-year license agreement with an undisclosed Tier One in-car–entertainment (ICE) and electronic equipment manufacturer.

To date, Neonode has signed license agreements with three Top-Ten ICE System OEMs, including Alpine, which was announced in July 2012. Neonode defines the Top-Ten, based on the rankings listed by Credit Agricole*.

Moreover, Neonode has to date acquired 20 design wins with multiple ICE System OEMs and Global Tier-One Automotive brands, including Volvo. The majority of these automotive OEMs expect to start production in 2014.

“We have specifically built our Multisensing® technology to create a first-class user experience in high performance and cost sensitive in-vehicle ICE and HMI systems. Thus we are delighted that a third Tier-One system OEM will be integrating our high-performing multi-touch technology into their next generation of in-car displays,” says Thomas Eriksson, CEO of Neonode “We continue to see considerable opportunities for Neonode in the automotive industry, and our cooperation with yet another Tier-One OEM further anchors our position as a quality provider of disruptively-priced Multisensing® touch solutions,” concludes Eriksson.

Developed with strictest safety requirements in mind, Neonode’s Multisensing Technology for the Automotive Industry enables a bright, no-glare, and 100% readable display, with a full operating temperature range. Other advantages are built-in diagnostics that alert its operational status to other on-board systems. It can also easily be used with any type of object such as for example gloved fingers. In addition, Neonode’s new proximity sensing solutions adds extended and intuitive reach with air gestures and sensors, for example on the steering wheel or other objects and surfaces in the car.
